Steffi Stern owner and director of The Makerss, published author, craft enthusiast and accomplished needlefelter for nearly 20 years, will show you techniques of how to free-hand embellish textiles as well as using biscuit cutters and water-soluble paper to make perfect shapes and motifs.

Suzi Warren is a Polite Protestor, Artist, Human Billboard, founder of the Clothes Hospital and Twisted Twee. She shares the story of how the global movement Street Stitching started by accident after she sat repairing her tights outside Primark during lockdown. Suzi will be showing a beautiful array of #stitchitdontditchit chair banners that stitchers make to unify their lines, telling tales of how this action encourages shoppers to mend before they spend!

It's an exciting year for Fabric Godmother and By Hand London. Both companies are 10 years old and they're celebrating with a collaboration. They have invited some of their favourite makers to create By Hand London garments using Fabric Godmother collection fabrics. These makers will be joined on the catwalk by some of By Hand London's original muses, wearing their name sake garments. Some of these garments will be displayed in the exhibit.

She’ll demonstrate how to use the Jenerates Seam Circles and Sewing Ruler to easily add or take away seam and hem allowances in everyday garment sewing, and to draft facings too. She will also be sharing some top sewing tips from her popular ‘Hogg Hacks’ series on social media.

Angela will give you a history of the amazing woad plant used for dyeing textiles blue and how it had an important part to play in the history of this country. Learn how Julius Caesar thought that all Britons dyed themselves blue, through to the plant being used to dye military uniforms in the First World War. It is on the edge of being so endangered that people will not be using this plant on a commercial scale anymore. Angela will share lots of examples of her own stitched work.

Prior to the show we invited you to be part of our Repurposed Interiors Challenge, coming to the show on the Friday wearing a garment you have repurposed from any home furnishings. We’re all conscious of the impact we’re having on the environment and making your clothes from old interior fabrics is a great way to reduce our carbon footprint. Today we bring you a selection of brave sewists who were up for the challenge!

In this talk Debbie will consider the waste, ethics and environmental impact of the clothing industry. How can we change our behaviour to make a difference but still satisfy our love of fashion? The 'Eco Stitch' aims to educate others about fast fashion and its alternatives. Debbie has upcycled and altered hundreds of garments using waste fabric to create handmade products and add 'wow' to gifting. With The Cloth Atelier, she will demonstrate the beauty and quality of natural ethical fabrics.

Janaka, creator of a number of menswear patterns for his own brand the Bespoke Pattern Collection will show you some simple steps to turn a menswear shirt pattern into a fitted womenswear dress, adding darts and shaping to create a pleasing style. Philippa Naylor is an award winning Quilter and Garment Maker. She originally trained as a clothing designer and worked for many years in industry designing lingerie and wedding dresses. Philippa will be talking today about her 'Slow Sewing' philosophy - which in both quilting and garment making translates to taking her time, and making a few, high quality pieces.
