Showcase your talents in the Dressmaking Competition
Our Dressmaking Competition returns for 2024! The competition is open to all contemporary dressmakers who want the opportunity to share your creations on the runway!
The competition features six categories, including a NEW category for young people. Entrants are encouraged to be as innovative as possible and judges will be looking for personal flair as well as beautifully executed techniques, stitching and finish.
The 2024 judging panel will be announced in February. The 2023 panel was made up of experts David Morrish of Kingfly Embroidery, Hand Knit Designer Jeanette Sloan, Josie Hawes – founder of Fabric Godmother and Elisalex de Castro Peake, co-found of By Hand London!

2024 Categories
Repurposed
Something for a special occasion, with a distinctive style. It could be full length or a cocktail dress, a trouser suit, or anything that would be worn on a special occasion.
For young people aged 11 – 18 years, we want your entries! Please state your age on the entry form to ensure your work is judged fairly. Any style or garment is welcome.
Make an outfit or garment for a child. Use your creative flair to create something that reflects their unique style and character that they’ll be proud to wear. See rule 14 below before entering this category.
Enter a garment or a full outfit for a man to wear; anything from a shirt or t-shirt to a tailored suit is welcome, including less conventional garments. We’re particularly keen for male sewists to enter and given the Boys Sew Too movement we know you’re out there!
Knit or crochet a garment or outfit. It could be a chunky knit jumper or a fine knit cardigan, a dress, a scarf or other accessories. Anything goes. Machine or hand knitted pieces welcome.
Repurposed
Repurpose old fabrics and or used/second-hand garments to create something new and wearable. Anything goes in this category, as long as you’re recycling something pre-loved.

This incredible denim dress was entered into the Upcycled/Repurposed category making use of several pairs of jeans to create this freestyle dress with underskirt.
Rules of entry
Please note: The entry form with photos must be submitted online by Midnight on Monday 12th February.
